Southwick Zoo Animal Show

Join us for a live animal show presented by Southwick Zoo. 
Learn about animal adaptations and the physical differences between
mammals, birds, and reptiles.  We'll see an exciting variety of animals
with scales, fur, and feathers.

Ages 3 & up, Advance Ticket Sales Only
When: Tuesday, April 17

Cost: Members: $8 children, $5 adults

The Lorax

“I am the Lorax. I speak for the trees.”

Join us for a fun afternoon as we celebrate The Lorax with fun hands-on activities. We will  go on a Truffula Tuft Hunt, make a Truffula Tree Garden, and read Dr. Seuss's  The Lorax  (and maybe even meet him!).  In addition, learn why trees are so important and meet some of the animals that make the woods their home. 

Recommended for children ages 3 and up.

Cost: Members: $10 per parent/child pair (each additional child: $5)
NonMembers: $15 per parent/child pair (each additional child: $8)

Saturday Morning Family Hike

Join a Naturalist for a fun and leisurely family hike.  In addition to learning about various plants and animals, we will discuss fun ways to keep kids engaged on nature walks and in the outdoors.  Wear sturdy shoes, bring water and a snack.  Trails are not stroller appropriate - please use backpacks or baby carriers.

Spring Discovery Day

Drop by for an outdoor discovery day at the Science Center! Bursting buds, chirping birds, and scampering chipmunks-there’s so much activity now that spring has sprung. Join us for a day of hands-on discovery, a spring scavenger hunt, and more! We’ll be ready for fun rain or shine, come dressed to enjoy and explore in the spring weather!

Carnivorous Plants: Venus Flytraps and Cousins

Venus Flytraps and other carnivorous plants eat insects! Come see how they do  it, and see what gets caught by Pitcher Plants and Sundews. Some Pitcher Plants are big enough to catch small birds and some Pitchers are used by bats as toilets! Make your own paper Pitcher Plant craft to take home.

Kite Day

Join us for an afternoon of high-flying fun! We’ll build our own kites out of recycled materials and then head out to our field to test them! Bring the whole family and if you like, your own kites from home.

Traveling Turtles

Tis the season!  Female turtles are leaving the security of their pond and woodland habitats to trek to breeding areas, often traveling great distances and crossing back yards and treacherous roadways.  Many are injured as they make this hazardous journey.  Join us to discuss the potential problems turtles face each year and what we can do to assist them.  After observing the turtles in our EcoZone Museum, we’ll walk to Jacobs Pond to explore the residents there.  Please dress for the weather.

Tales from the Wild

Join us for stories and tales about animals in nature.

For children ages 3-5.
FREE with admission.
Fridays, 10:30-11:00am

Feed the Animals

Come watch a naturalist feed the animals at the Nature Center. 
Learn more about what some turtles eat, where some amphibians live, and other interesting things about the animals in the EcoZone Museum.

Please note: Many of the animals in the EcoZone are wild and non-releasable; therefore guests will not be able to feed or pet the animals themselves.
